"Excellent" British medical drama beloved by fans is coming to streaming on ITV

A long-running medical drama set in the Peak District is coming to ITVX, with fans soon being able to enjoy the show's "stunning scenery and compelling storylines".

Created by Lucy Gannon, Peak Practice originally aired between 1993 and 2002. The series follows the lives of doctors in the fictional town of Cardale in the Derbyshire Peak District, with protagonists Dr Jack Kerruish, Dr Beth Glover, and Dr Will Preston played by Kevin Whately, Amanda Burton and Simon Shepherd, respectively.

Peak Practice changed its cast throughout the years, with stars including Gary Mavers, Adrian Lukis, Haydn Gwynne and Maggie O'Neill joining the show in later seasons.

What is Peak Practice about?

The show explores "themes of community, relationships, and the challenges of rural healthcare", blending beautiful landscapes and poignant stories to offer "a heartwarming and engaging look" into the world of medicine.

Season one kicks off with Dr Kerruish returning to the UK after setting up a practice in Africa. He interviews for a job at the Beeches surgery in Derbyshire, a practice run by Dr Glover and Dr Preston.

What are fans saying about Peak Practice?

Fans have been loving the show since it first aired, with one viewer on IMDb calling it an "excellent" series and "one of the better dramas of recent years".

Another viewer agreed, arguing that the series was "excellent, beautiful and heartwarming".

The fan complained about the medical drama being cancelled after nearly a decade on the air, writing: "It had fantastic, well written and engaging story lines, clever and touching writing and sweet, relaxing music. It also had the advantage of being gorgeously filmed, the countryside of Derbyshire is absolutely beautiful and really added to Peak Practice's charm."

Others, however, suggested the drama's quality declined over time, with one person noting that the show "never recaptured the Beth/Jack magic of the early seasons".
