Smith: Osimhen Not Perfect Fit For Arsenal
Arsenal legend Alan Smith has raised doubts about a potential move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, expressing reservations that the high-cost forward might not be the right tactical or financial fit for Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Recall that the Nigerian international has been a major transfer target for the Gunners and other clubs in Europe this summer.

However, Smith, in a chat with the Gooners News, believes the Gunners must carefully weigh if the huge investment guarantees the prolific output needed to edge past their Premier League rivals, rather than disrupting team chemistry.
“I don’t know how much truth there is in that,” Smith told the Gooners News. “When Osimhen went from Napoli to Galatasaray, I think most people probably thought, oh, his chance to go to the Premier League may be over there. But he can score goals.”
“I think Arsenal do need a centre forward; it’s getting the right one, so that’ll be an interesting one to see how it develops, if it does develop.”

Osimhen has been a sensational talisman for Galatasaray, breaking records as the fastest player to reach 50 goals for the club (in 59 matches), firing them to the Süper Lig title, and continuing his prolific scoring form into the 2026/27 season
He opened the new league campaign strongly, scoring a decisive brace and late goals to rescue points, including a strong start against Çorum FK and Çaykur Rizespor.
The former Napoli striker remains the club’s undisputed centerpiece, with Galatasaray rejecting massive mega-money bids (such as from Al-Hilal) to keep him in Istanbul.
