India remained 138th in the FIFA men’s rankings according to the latest update published on October 7. Despite heavy losses to Brazil and Uruguay, a draw with higher-ranked Panama helped the Blue Tigers retain their position.
Khalid Jamil’s side drew 1-1 with Panama in its first match of the September-October international break, with Ryan Williams’ opener being cancelled out by Omar Valencia.
The Indian defence stood firm for most of the highly anticipated clash against five-time World Cup winner Brazil. Goals from Estevao, Pedro and a brace from Samuel Lino helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side win 4-0.
In the contest against Uruguay, Anirudh Thapa cancelled out an early penalty from Darwin Nunez, but the visitor ran 6-1 winners at the end.
Rwanda was the biggest gainer of the international break, rising nine places to 119. Spain continues to lead the standings ahead of Argentina with France and England in third and fourth, respectively.
