Star Trek crossovers are often some of the best ways to engage with the universe. While canon stories can get a little wonky at times (especially when time travel is involved), plenty of video games and tabletop experiences emulate the franchise's look and feel while offering team-up opportunities for multiple iconic captains.

So many strong actors have inhabited the chair (and the seats of the crew), it's impossible to resist the urge to see them all together in some form. That's exactly what Star Trek: Warp could become: one of a litany of mashups that bring characters from multiple eras of the series together. While it needs a little more time in the oven before release, you can try it for free right now.

Star Trek: Warp Reunites Multiple Eras

Star Trek Warp Card Table

Developed by Monumental LLC and published by Plarium Global Ltd, Star Trek: Warp has been announced for PC. As a lane-based card game, you'll take control of starships and crew members as you take down villains and complete missions. There's a "huge roster" of legends, heroes, and villains to choose from, plus locations like the Warp Core. Your deck includes starships, and the IKS Bortas and USS Enterprise are confirmed for now.

Staggeringly, the game takes an extreme stance on lanes. There are seven in all, and you'll need to think strategically to parse all of them. Thankfully, it offers plenty of customization with "hundreds of cards," and matches are supposedly tightly paced and balanced for the person who goes second. If you're not keen on PVE modes, there's also ranked and casual PVP play.

Here's what you can look forward to:

"Warp speed, engaged! Star Trek: Warp is a card battler that combines deep gameplay, unique mechanics, and the joy of collecting and customizing powerful decks that feature characters and ships from across the Star Trek universe. Command the lanes. Control the outcome. Unlock iconic characters, starships, and locations as you play to complete objectives and earn legendary cards worthy of any captain's deck."

For reference, Star Trek mashups come in all shapes and sizes. Digitally, Star Trek Online is running a massive event right now with classic characters, including three different forms of Spock, utilizing archival recordings from Leonard Nimoy.

Then there's Star Trek Ascendancy, a 4x tabletop game that's coming back to life due to a successful $3 million USD Gamefound campaign. It features many different civilizations in asynchronous gameplay, with the Tholians, the Terran Empire, and the Tholians added for this new release.

If you're keen, you can try a demo of Star Trek: Warp right now. It'll take you through the tutorial, then straight into combat, with a choice between six pre-built decks, each featuring a different ship. The demo was updated earlier this year to add a deck viewer in combat, along with tweaks to certain cards and some bug fixes.

Star Trek fans face an uncertain future for the mainline series right now, but lots of third parties are still making projects, including Star Trek: Warp.
