Man jailed three months, fined RM400 for impersonating MACC officer

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 —An unemployed man was sentenced to three months' jail and fined RM400 in the Selayang Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to impersonating a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer.

Mohd Izham Mohd Zainuddin, 34, received the sentence from Magistrate Chai Guan Hock and was ordered to start his jail term from the date of arrest on July 30, 2026.

The court also ordered the accused to be sentenced for a month if he failed to pay his fine.

Mohd Izham was charged with introducing himself as a MACC officer and showing a work pass with the MACC logo on it to a 69-year-old man, when the accused was not a public servant.

The offence was committed in a house in Taman Selasih Phase 2, Batu Caves, Selangor, under Section 171 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of three months or a fine of RM400 or both.

In the same court, Mohd Izham pleaded not guilty to cheating a 55-year-old woman by deceiving the victim into handing over RM31,500 for the purpose of purchasing a plot of land in Kampung Muhibah Utama, Sungai Tinggi in Hulu Selangor.

The offence was allegedly committed at Lot 211, Jalan Besar Selayang Indah, Batu Caves, from June 2 to June 22, 2026, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years with whipping, and may also be liable to a fine, if convicted.

The court did not grant bail to the accused and set the case mention for Nov 17.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Birr Zamier Abu Bakar while the accused was unrepresented. — Bernama
