Taiwan win four golds at tug-of-war championship

Taiwan finished the 2026 World Outdoor Tug of War Championships in South Africa with four gold, two silver and two bronze medals, including titles in two women’s weight classes for the fifth consecutive year.
On the final day of the four-day competition in Mossel Bay on Saturday, Taiwan won two golds, two silvers and one bronze, with the senior women’s 540kg team securing their fifth consecutive world title.
Taiwan also took gold in the women’s under-23 500kg event, while the junior mixed 520kg team claimed silver.

The men’s under-23 600kg team also won silver, while the senior men’s 560kg team earned bronze, its best-ever performance in the event.
On Friday, Taiwan won two golds and one bronze, with the senior women’s 500kg team capturing its fifth consecutive world title and the junior women’s 480kg team winning a fourth straight championship.
The senior men’s 600kg team took bronze.
President William Lai sent congratulatory messages to the Taiwanese athletes in recognition of their achievements.
Taiwan sent a 79-member team to compete in 11 categories at this year’s championships.
At the previous edition of the World Outdoor Tug of War Championships in Nottingham, England, Taiwan won five gold and two silver medals.
