PN to respond to RoS within two weeks, says Takiyuddin

KOTA BARU: PN will respond to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) within two weeks over a notice issued to the coalition.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said discussions were under way and the coalition was preparing its response.

"We were given 30 days to provide an explanation, and we expect to settle everything within two weeks.

"At the same time, we have sent a letter to RoS requesting a meeting between the PN leadership and the RoS director-general.

"The letter was sent yesterday. We want the meeting to seek clarification as well as to provide an explanation of what happened," he said.

He said this when met at the Bunut Payong Karnival Cakna Rakyat here today.

Media had previously reported that RoS issued an order suspending all PN activities effective Sept 23.

According to RoS, the suspension order was issued under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832).

The department said the notice required PN to explain a complaint lodged by Bersatu.

Asked about the possibility of PN being deregistered by RoS, Takiyuddin, who is also Kota Baru member of parliament, said the coalition could not predict what would happen.

"If our explanation satisfies RoS, it may not be deregistered. If it does not, RoS may deregister us. That's all.

"We also cannot predict the motive behind the action because the show-cause notice was issued on the same day the Melaka Chief Minister announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly," he said.
