Thunder 3 ‒ Episode 11
The few survivors of the mostly ineffective Rebellion task force don't get much to do, thankfully. Segami is incapacitated by his Empoweral hangover, and has to be carried off-screen by a female colleague, who seems to have been granted temporary healing powers from her own use of the drug.
While his two friends are more keen to start murderizing some alien fiends posthaste, Pyontaro himself is more worried about hitting them so hard that the boys become murderers. That's a fair point; these are only schoolboys, they're not soldiers, and I imagine exploding alien heads with their fists and having to scrape brains from their clothing would probably traumatize them. It does mean that their three-on-three fight seems strangely weightless, like they're smashing against plastic action figures who don't get seriously damaged even when slammed against skyscrapers.
The other group of cartoon world denizens finally catch up with the Small Three, and witness their superhuman feats, as livestreamed by some random dude who grants them instant internet fame. I suspect that may come back to bite them in the butt later. “It's real, not CGI!” he repeatedly exclaims, in a yet further obnoxious attempt to lampshade the show's egregiously awful aesthetics.
I do wonder if there's anyone else left out there watching this show? Am I the only one stuck here each week, dreading finding something to say about every glacially-paced, impactless episode? I really hoped that The Small Three's – no, now the title-dropped Thunder 3's – eventual fight back might revitalize the show, but I think that was too much to hope for. I feel like poor little Futaba, stuck in the same place week after week, staring at a screen where almost nothing of interest happens.
