Boise's Danielson says Western Michigan 'an undefeated football team'

Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson says to throw out the records when his team travels to face Western Michigan on Saturday.

Even though Western Michigan enters the game with a 2-1 record -- winning back-to-back games after its controversial season-opening loss at Michigan, Danielson believes Western Michigan should be undefeated.

"I saw a little bit of what happened with the Michigan-Western Michigan game early on," Danielson said. "When I went back and studied this, unbelievable. They're an undefeated football team, period. End of story."

Michigan defeated Western Michigan 13-12 on Sept. 6 when quarterback Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan on a second Hail Mary attempt for a winning, 47-yard score.

The play came after Underwood sailed a Hail Mary pass beyond the end zone and into the arms of Western Michigan safety Micah Davis in what appeared to be the final play of the game. TV replays showed the clock hitting zero with the ball still in the air, but replay officials ruled there was a second still to play, setting up Buchanan's game-winner.

"You watch that game, they absolutely beat Michigan at Michigan," Danielson said. "And that's not hype. That is what happened."

The Big Ten stood by the review. The Mid-American Conference appealed the final result, but the NCAA's FBS oversight committee ruled it didn't have the authority to overturn the result.

Boise State enters Saturday's game with a 2-1 record, defeating Memphis and South Dakota after a season-opening loss at Oregon. Western Michigan has won two in a row, defeating Monmouth and Rice.
