Oga Boys return to winning ways in Lagos
Ikorodu City returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League with a 2-0 victory over Kwara United in their Matchday 8 fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Saturday.
The Oga Boys made an explosive start, according to Sports247, taking the lead just two minutes into the game. Salami Farouk rose highest to head home from a well-delivered throw-in by Ujunwa Elijah.
The early goal gave the hosts the momentum they needed and put Kwara United under immediate pressure, as the visitors struggled to contain Ikorodu City’s attacking threat.
The Oga Boys kept pushing forward and doubled their advantage in the 36th minute. Ikechukwu Junior beat the Kwara United defence with another well-taken header, connecting with a delivery from Olumide Akinwande to give the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead before the interval.
The goal was his third in the league this season and further underlined his growing importance to the Ikorodu City attack.
With two goals separating the sides at half-time, Kwara United faced the task of mounting a second-half comeback against a determined home team.

The Harmony Boys, however, could not find a way back into the contest as Ikorodu City held on to protect their lead and keep a clean sheet.
Kwara United’s difficult afternoon was compounded in the 86th minute when Saheed Olaniyi was sent off after a second yellow card for a reckless challenge. The dismissal left the visitors with 10 men in the closing stages and ended any hope of salvaging a result.
The victory is a timely response for Ikorodu City after their Matchday 7 defeat to Rivers United, whom they lost to 2-0. For the Lagos-based side, it marks an important return to form as they continue their campaign.
Kwara United, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their shortcomings as they look to bounce back in their next league fixture.
Ikorodu City will take confidence from their clinical first-half display, with the headed goals from Salami and Ikechukwu proving decisive in securing all three points.
