Halloween came late at the Allen house, and nobody minded. Two days after Buffalo beat Baltimore 36-10, quarterback Josh Allen and his wife, Hailee Steinfeld, hosted the Bills' annual team party on a Monday night. The theme was Wonderland, and the youngest guest came dressed as Alice. Steinfeld shared the details in her newsletter, Beau Society, and slipped in a playful dig at her husband. The delay had a simple cause. An NFL schedule rarely bends for costumes, so the couple bent the calendar instead.
Why Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen celebrate holidays on their own schedule
Pro football families learn quickly that game days come first. Steinfeld treats that as a creative challenge, not a loss. "Sometimes a job forces you to get creative about when you celebrate holidays," she explained.
She then widened the idea beyond Halloween. "That could look like Christmas in January, Thanksgiving a day early, and Halloween two days late. If you're making time to celebrate the occasions and traditions that matter to you with people you love, who cares what the date is?"
Her point lands well for any family with shift work, travel, or a packed season. The date on the calendar matters less than the people at the table. By her account, the guests agreed. Great costumes and high energy made a Monday in November feel like October 31.
Allen's in Wonderland: the party theme and the wedding joke behind it
The Allens used to host bigger bashes. In October 2024, they went with a circus theme. This year's Alice in Wonderland idea had been waiting a while, and Steinfeld made sure everyone knew why. "I loooved this theme and wanted to do this last time, but we weren't married;))."
Fans of the couple will smile at that. Allen proposed on November 22, 2024, and he later shared how openly Steinfeld hinted at it. "The funniest thing was that we woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said ‘Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!' I replied, ‘Just give me a little more time.' Little did you know I was about to propose to you…"
They married at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara on May 31, 2025. This past offseason, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Harper. Her Alice costume appears in the second to last slide of Steinfeld's Instagram post, and it may be the best look of the night.
Steinfeld also thanked the local business owners who helped build the party. She and Allen dressed as the King and Queen of Hearts, and she gave the evening a happy ending. "Getting back into hosting was a blast," she wrote. "By the end of the night, gloves, crown, and cape were off! Best night ever!"
