Fontaines D.C. See Rosalía as a Kindred Spirit in Keeping Musical Traditions Alive, Announce Limited-Edition 7-Inch for Collab

Fontaines D.C. guitarist Carlos O’Connell has opened up about the connection he sees between his band and Rosalía, whose appearance on the Irish group’s upcoming album, Dopamine Chamber, brings together two artists he believes share a similar impulse to keep their countries’ musical traditions alive.

Their collaboration, “Where Is Gone?,” will also receive a limited-edition white-label 7-inch, available exclusively at participating stores during Fontaines D.C.’s global album listening parties on October 8th, while supplies last. Dopamine Chamber arrives October 16th via XL Recordings.

Speaking with Australian youth radio station triple j, O’Connell, who was born in Spain before moving to Ireland as a child, traced his admiration for Rosalía back to her 2017 debut album, Los Ángeles.

“What made me really excited about it was that it seemed like it was someone who was trying to keep the sort of tradition of the music alive — Spanish tradition and flamenco,” he said. “It seemed very akin to what we were doing at the time.” O’Connell explained that, “in a sort of spiritual way,” Fontaines D.C. were similarly trying to “bring alive the old spirit of traditional music in Ireland.”

O’Connell added that Rosalía has “blown my mind every step of the way,” before drawing a broader parallel between their respective relationships with Spain and Ireland. “She kind of did something for Spain, you know, I feel like maybe similar to what we did for Ireland of opening the floodgates,” he said. “It’s just been a beautiful thing to see happen for both these countries that I come from.”

Fontaines D.C. will support Dopamine Chamber with an extensive 2027 world tour, including a recently announced North American run split across the spring and fall. Westside Cowboy will support the spring leg, while Iceage will join the band in the fall.
