Four persons, including a commercial bus driver, have died while 13 others sustained critical injuries in a collision involving a truck and a commercial bus on Alaro City Bridge, inward T-Junction, Epe, Lagos State.

The crash occurred on Wednesday morning when the truck rammed into a fully loaded commercial bus while both vehicles were crossing the single-lane bridge, trapping victims in the wreckage, according to eyewitnesses.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that four people died in the incident, while 13 other occupants sustained critical injuries.

The truck driver also suffered severe injuries, with both legs reportedly severed, and was trapped in the wreckage.

LASTMA operatives, with support from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), evacuated the deceased to a mortuary, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment.

Security personnel from the Epe Police Division also reinforced the rescue operations.

Bakare-Oki commiserated with the bereaved families, describing the loss of lives as deeply distressing, and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations, particularly on bridges, narrow carriageways and other road bottlenecks.

The LASTMA chief reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and improving road safety through collaboration with other relevant agencies.

He also urged motorists to maintain safe following distances, observe prescribed speed limits and avoid dangerous driving manoeuvres, especially on bridges and constricted roadways where reckless driving could result in fatal crashes.
