Taiwanese soft tennis player Chen Po-yi yesterday put up a good fight against defending champion Toshiki Uematsu of Japan in the men’s singles semi-finals before losing 4-2 at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

With bronze awarded to both losing semi-finalists, Chen secured his second medal of this year’s Asian Games following a silver in the men’s team event.

The 23-year-old Chen told Taiwanese media he considered himself lucky to win two of the singles semi-final’s six games, calling Uematsu, winner of three golds at the 2022 Asian Games, “the final boss” of soft tennis.

Taiwan’s soft tennis team finished this year’s Asian Games with four medals: gold in mixed doubles, one silver in the men’s and women’s team events each, and Chen’s bronze.

At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in China, Taiwan’s soft tennis team won three silver and two bronze medals.

As of last night, Taiwanese athletes at this year’s Asian Games had won 13 medals.
