Social media gave me creative control— Abayomi Alvin

Translate

Actor, Abayomi Alvin, has said that acting alone may not provide the financial opportunities needed to achieve all of one’s ambitions.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actor explained that he initially relied on opportunities from others when he started acting but eventually realised he could create opportunities for himself.

He said, “Acting in Nigeria is not like the way it is in Hollywood where, as an actor, you can sustain yourself by just being an actor. Not that you can’t do that here, but if one wants to make it in life, one would realise that the pay that comes from acting won’t get one all that one wants in life.

“At some point, one realises that one doesn’t have to kill one’s other dreams just because one wants to be an actor. I can be an actor and still build a trustworthy brand.”

Alvin, who is also involved in real estate marketing and other businesses, said social media had given him greater creative control and enabled him to explore opportunities beyond traditional acting.

He said, “Social media gave me a level of creative control I didn’t have when I was solely acting. As an actor, one can be very talented, but one still depends on someone casting one. One still needs to depend on a producer liking one.

“I have always wanted to do my own thing and play different characters, and social media allowed me to create these opportunities myself.”
