Anwar pays tribute to Siti Hasmah following her death at 100
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences following the death of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, at the age of 100 today.
"May I share some sad news… this morning, we learnt of the passing of Tun Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
"May Allah bless her soul. Al-Fatihah," he said in his officiating speech at the International Future Conference 2026 today.
Dr Siti Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) today.
Her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, confirmed her death.
Born on July 12, 1926, in Klang, Selangor, Dr Siti Hasmah was among Malaysia's earliest Malay women doctors and had a long career in medicine, public health and social work.
She married Mahathir in 1956. The couple had seven children, including social activist and writer Marina Mahathir and former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
