SARIKEI, Oct 8 — A new road linking Sare to Jalan Sentubu/Bukit Kinyau, costing approximately RM17 million, is expected to cut travel time to Sarikei town from 30 minutes to just 10 minutes.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the 2.7-kilometre road would also provide an alternative route to Sarikei Hospital, thereby helping to ease congestion on the existing route.

He said the project, funded by the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), is scheduled for completion within 12 months.

He added that of the total cost, about RM1.4 million had been allocated for land compensation to some 20 affected landowners.

“This road will greatly benefit residents, as travel to Sarikei town will be shortened from about 30 minutes to 10 minutes,” he told reporters after the ground-breaking ceremony for the project and the presentation of compensation cheques to the affected landowners here yesterday. — Bernama
