Karate leads Malaysia's medal charge at Asian Games today [WATCH]

NAGOYA: The national contingent will continue their quest for medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today, with medal hopes spread across several sports.

All eyes will be on karate, which has already delivered one gold and two bronze medals, when world championship silver medallist C. Shahmalarani competes in the women's kumite under-50kg class.

Malaysia will also be in medal contention in the men's team kata.

In wushu, Clement Ting will compete in the men's daoshu-gunshu, while Pang Pui Yee takes to the stage in the women's jianshu-qiangshu.

Swimmers Bryan Leong and Goh Li Jie will compete in the men's 100m butterfly, while Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal and Khiew Hoe Yean will contest the men's 200m freestyle.

The squash competition also begins today, with Sanjay Jeeva facing Uzbekistan's Mustafo Abdurakhmonov in the men's singles round of 32.

Defending champion Ng Eain Yow will begin his title defence against an opponent from Thailand or the Philippines.

In esports, Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira will race in the Gran Turismo semi-finals, while Malaysia will face an as-yet-undetermined opponent in the eFootball quarter-finals.

The Malaysians will also meet Thailand in the Naraka: Bladepoint group stage.

In shooting, SEA Games bronze medallist Nurul Syasya Nadiah Mohd Ariffin will compete in the women's 10m air pistol, while Joseph Lee takes part in the men's skeet.

In kabaddi, Malaysia will face Iran in the preliminary round.

In 3x3 basketball, the women will face the Philippines, while the men take on Iran in their final group matches.
