Bojie Dy hails Pisa improvement: ‘It’s a welcome news’

MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III welcomed the Philippines’ improved performance in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa), saying the results are fruits of the government’s sustained investments and reforms

Dy credited the gains to a collective effort involving the national government, the Department of Education (DepEd), school leaders and teachers, who he said translate policies and resources into actual learning in classrooms.

“I commend Secretary Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara and the entire Department of Education for keeping their focus on improving learning outcomes and addressing the long-standing challenges confronting basic education,” Dy said.

He acknowledged that improving the country’s education system would take time, noting that the challenges facing Philippine basic education “cannot be solved overnight.”

“But these results tell us that progress is possible when we stay focused on learning outcomes and support our teachers and students,” Dy said.

Dy also lauded President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for making education a national priority, saying the administration’s continued allocation of resources to schools and young people reflects that commitment.

He stressed that improving education requires sustained government support over several years rather than short-term interventions.

Dy emphasized that the latest results should serve as a basis for further reforms rather than a reason for complacency.

“The important thing is that we now have evidence that improvement is possible,” he said. “Our responsibility is to build on these gains and make sure that progress reaches every classroom and every Filipino child.”

Dy said Congress would continue supporting education reforms, programs and investments aimed at equipping teachers with the necessary tools and providing Filipino children with quality education.
