"I Never Had Bad Intentions": Lacy Says He Was "Trolling" About the $12,000 Japan Restaurant Bill After Backlash

Nick “Lacy” is owning up to a story that blew up on him. The Twitch streamer said he was “dumb and thought it was funny” after people pushed back on his claim of a $12,000 restaurant bill in Japan. In a post on X on October 29, he explained that a language barrier made him think he had to pay the whole amount, but he later found out he only had to cover food that was already prepared. He also apologised for not fixing the story sooner, and said he hadn't thought about what the claims could do to the restaurant and its staff.

I wanna clear up the restaurant situation in Japan. Due to the language barrier, I genuinely thought I was responsible for a $12,000 bill initially. I told the restaurant I'd cover it, asked them to give the extra food to families, and left my assistant to handle everything because my stream was cut and i wanted to get back. When I got back on stream, I was frustrated and thinking I owed $12,000, I started talking and trolling about it on stream like an idiot. After, i found out I only had to pay for the extra food that was already prepared not the entire bill. Where I went wrong was not correcting the story once I found out. I never expected it to go so viral, and im dumb and thought it was funny. I don't care about the hate at all, twitter pages have an agenda and this fits it. But what i do care about is how i didn't realize it could negatively effect the restaurant and that's on me and i apologize. I never had bad intentions or intended for the restaurant to receive any hate. None of this was their fault, it was the people who sent the orders in and mine. I reached out to them to make things right and I do apologize for not clearing things up sooner.

How Lacy's $12,000 restaurant bill claim led to accusations of clip farming

It all began on Lacy's October 28 livestream from Japan. While eating at a restaurant, he accidentally showed the QR code tied to his table's ordering system. Viewers reportedly used it to order more food, and staff ended up dealing with requests Lacy said he never made.

Later he said the total hit around 1.6 million yen, which he described as almost $12,000. He also said he offered to pay it and asked the restaurant to give the extra food to families.

But the story got questioned fast. Users on Reddit's r/LivestreamFail accused him of blowing the incident up for clips.

One user claimed staff kept asking Lacy if the extra orders were his, and also alleged that the restaurant never made most of the food and asked him to pick out his real orders from the receipt.

Another Reddit user doubted that the restaurant could even handle an order that big.

Lacy admits trolling about the bill and apologises for not correcting his story sooner

Lacy answered the criticism in a long X post on October 29. He said the language barrier first made him believe he owed everything. A

fter he left his assistant to deal with the restaurant arrangements, he went back to his livestream frustrated and started joking about the bill. He admitted he should have corrected his comments once he understood what had really happened.

“Where I went wrong was not correcting the story once I found out. I never expected it to go so viral, and im dumb and thought it was funny,” Lacy wrote.

He also said he reached out to the restaurant to make things right, apologising for the unwanted attention and insisting the staff were not responsible for the incident.

The restaurant's side became part of the talk too. Screenshots of an alleged Instagram statement from Zauo Shibuya got passed around on X.

The translated statement reportedly said staff checked orders with customers and charged them only for food they actually consumed, and it disputed Lacy's version of how the extra orders were handled.

Lacy stuck to his claim that he first misunderstood the bill, but he acknowledged his comments gave an unfair impression of the restaurant.
