The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is expecting a surge in passengers starting Friday afternoon, October 30 as Filipinos go on exodus in observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day this weekend.

And then early morning po ng Saturday hanggang hapon na po siguro ng Saturday, 'Yun po 'yung ating pa-norte,” said NLEX Corporation AVP for Traffic Operations Robin Ignacio in an interview with Balitanghali.

(We are expecting this around tomorrow afternoon, probably early afternoon. That will continue until night. And then early morning on Saturday until probably Saturday afternoon—that's for our northbound traffic.)

The NLEX official said that traffic along the expressway is still fastmoving, especially going north.

But the toll operator said it’s not expecting a big difference between the volume of passengers in this year’s Undas compared to last year.

“Baka hindi naman po gano'n kaano po 'yung difference ano, pero pa from 'yung ating normal daily average, ine-expect po namin na maaari po itong tataas ng between 3 to 5% ito pong period ng today, October 29 hanggang November 3,” said Ignacio.

(The difference might not be that huge, but compared to our normal daily average, we expect that it could rise between 3% to 5% during this period from today, October 29, until November 3.)

(But of course, we have what we call peak hours, just like the surge I mentioned earlier. Our hourly traffic then, compared to our normal daily or normal hourly traffic, might increase by more than 20% during those peak hours.)

Further, NLEX said that it has already deployed around 1,500 personnel starting today.

(We estimate around 1,500 personnel, ranging from our toll tellers, patrols, security, traffic marshals, to our incident response teams.) — RSJ, GMA News
