The Lord of the Rings is returning in 2027 with a brand-new adventure focused on Rohan, Gondor, and the realms of Men in their bid against Sauron. The new book, which is called The White Tower and the Hall of Gold, will be releasing globally next October as part of The One Ring. And based on everything shown for it so far, it sounds pretty awesome.

The award-winning The One Ring tabletop RPG is kicking off a new era with some updated rulebooks focused on 5.5e and new releases. There are three new books all set to launch in October 2027, according to the official BackerKit. Those are The White Tower and the Hall of Gold, the Creatures Strange and Foul bestiary, and the updated Core Rules compendium. Currently, the campaign sits at over $1.7 million, well past its $50,000 goal.

While all three books sound exciting, The White Tower and the Hall of Gold is billed as a "massive campaign expansion," so for anyone hankering for a new adventure, this is where you'll want to start. The book itself focuses on Minas Tirith and Gondor, as well as Rohan. The new book, as described by Free League Publishing, will feature the following:

• The lands of Gondor are described in detail, from the Guarded City of Minas Tirith and the fiefs of the South-kingdom to ancient fortresses, forgotten ruins, and dangerous borderlands.
• The Kingdom of Rohan is explored in depth, including its history, great halls, wide plains, and the strongholds of the Riddermark.
• Landmarks, campaign frameworks, and adventure hooks provide Loremasters with material for long journeys and heroic tales across both realms.
• Finally, the Appendix introduces a wealth of new options for Player-heroes, including new Heroic Cultures, Virtues, and expanded rules for horses, boats, journeys by sea and river, riding, and mounted combat.

Collector's Editions of the books are also available for backers. Right now, the campaign has 21 days remaining, so you still have plenty of time to back it. Backers can also get access to PDFs of the books well before the official launch in October 2027.

The White Tower and the Hall of Gold is written by Gareth Hanrahan, who also wrote the books for Moria – Through the Doors of Durin and Hands of the White Wizard. The book will feature artwork from Antonio De Luca, Federica Costantini, and Jan Pospíšil, with map art by Francesco Mattioli.

If you play The Lord of the Rings 5e instead of The One Ring RPG, the adaptation will be released under the title Realms of the South with some nice 5.5e upgrades. For any fans of The Lord of the Rings craving a new adventure, the new expansion sounds like a lot of fun. And if you've never tried out either of these Middle-earth tabletop RPGs, consider giving them a try.
