Just 3k turn up at last special SIR camp for inclusion of names in Delhi voter rolls

The final round of special voter enrolment camps was organised ahead of the Oct 30 deadline

NEW DELHI: The last round of special camps organised at nearly 15,000 polling stations across Delhi on Sunday under the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls drew a tepid response, with only 3,000-odd people submitting Form-6 applications for inclusion of their names in the rolls.Around 1,000 applications were received together through Form 7, for deletion of existing entries, including those of deceased voters, and Form 8, used for corrections in name, address etc, said officials. The camps were organised to provide additional opportunities to eligible voters whose names were deleted from the draft electoral rolls published on Aug 31. As many as 47.6 lakh out of 1.4 crore voters were deleted from the draft SIR rolls.Against this number, only 2.6 lakh Form-6 applications for inclusion of names have been received between Aug 31 and Oct 25, shows latest data released by the office of the chief electoral officer.West district records highest number of Form-6 applicationsDuring the same period, 19,804 Form-7 applications were submitted for deletion of names or objections to existing entries, while 99,720 Form-8 applications were received for corrections.

Another 466 Form-6A applications were received from overseas electors for inclusion. The final round of special voter enrolment camps was organised ahead of the Oct 30 deadline. “BLOs were available at the nearly 15,000 polling stations on Oct 25 for the last special camp to help voters fill the related forms. Although a good number of people turned up at the locations, only 4,000 people submitted Forms 6, 7 and 8,” said an official.“We have made all efforts to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind. The response is understandable because those who wanted to submit forms for inclusion may already have done it during the two months long period from Aug 31 to Oct 30. Those who wish to submit their forms can do it till Friday (Oct 30) after which forms under SIR will not be accepted.” The 2.6 lakh Form 6 applications include voters whose names were deleted from draft SIR rolls and new voters.Among the 13 revenue districts, West recorded the highest number of Form-6 applications at 32,321, followed by North West (26,661), East (25,433), South East (25,293) and North East (25,241). New Delhi recorded the lowest number at 4,688.

South West recorded the highest number of Form-7 applications at 3,013, followed by South (2,701), North East (2,400) and West (2,242). For Form-8, North East topped the list with 13,063 applications, followed by West (10,539), East (10,407), North West (9,471) and South West (9,406).
