The Pitt Cast Pitches Their Dream Crossover With Widow's Bay

How Matthew Rhys, Sally Field, Jean Smart & More Made Emmys History

Should the townspeople of Widow’s Bay ever make it off the cursed island, they have the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center team standing by to help.

After all, The Pitt’s Patrick Ball revealed his dream guest for an upcoming season of the hospital drama would be Dale Dickey from Widow’s Bay.

"I pitched it last night," he exclusively told E! News backstage at the 2026 Emmys Sept. 14 after the show took home Outstanding Drama Series. "Her people are thinking it over. They’ll get back to us."

But the Best Supporting Actress nominee isn't the only star they'd be game to treat as Stephen Root also made The Pitt cast's roster for an ideal guest. Because as fans of Widow’s Bay saw, the citizens of the cursed New England town could likely use some more medical personnel ahead of season two.

"They’ve got a lot of problems," Ball added. "It’s teed up for us."

However, the dream guest list stretches beyond the stars of the comedy horror show.

"I saw Don Cheadle at a party last night," Noah Wyle noted. "Don said he’d come on. I don’t know. We’ll see."

For now, the casts of both The Pitt and Widow's Bay are just celebrating their successes. Widow’s Bay swept the Emmys with a whopping 14 wins, including for Outstanding Comedy Series. Root and acting accolades for Root, Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn and Betty Gilpin.

As for The Pitt, it scooped up six statues, including for Outstanding Drama Series for a second year in a row. Wyle and Ernest Harden Jr. were also recognized for their lead and guest performances (see the full list of winners here).

Although, the cast and crew of The Pitt couldn’t celebrate too hard as they had to report to set to film season three the next day. As for what fans can expect this time around?

"Starts right off with a bang," Wyle, who stars as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, teased to E!, "get a little bit of night shift this year to sort of open the show. Every one of these characters that you’ve come to know and love is going through something rather significant this year. It’s less of a Robby-centric arc of depression and despondency and it focuses more one everybody else and how they’re all coping. So everybody else gets to step up this season in a wonderful way."

And as they head into their junior year, the cast and crew of The Pitt are reflecting on what the series means to not only them but also to viewers.

"They love the show. They love all these characters," Harden Jr. added.  "I just feel that, again, the hospital community embraced it, and they told all their friends. And that’s just how we became hot because people said, 'Hey, this is just like going to work. You’ve got to see this show.’ And look what happened? We became No. 1."

And they’re grateful for all the support. 

“When I think about the people in the Television Academy, the people in the audience, they’re just such amazing artists,” Katherine LaNasa shared. "And to think that people I have admired for so long, to think that they feel that way about us, it’s just really meaningful. It’s the highest honor. I take this with so much gratitude and humility.”
