Nobody does a crossover quite like the King of the Monsters, Godzilla himself, and in recent years, this particular concept has been stress-tested, with absurd extremes like The Great Gatsby thrown in the mix. People can't get enough of Godzilla crossing over into other worlds, whether they're relatively more peaceful ones, or chaotic ones like The War of the Worlds. But in terms of Godzilla crossover silliness, the best move is to match absurd wavelengths by giving Godzilla similarly larger-than-life opponents with a strong comic book presence, and such is the case with Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Initially debuting on March 23, 2022, Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a five-issue limited series helmed by writer Cullen Bunn with illustrations by Freddie E. Williams II, and colors by Andrew Dalhouse, Valentina Pinto, and Matt Herms. While its sequel certainly put a funky aftertaste in readers' mouths, sporting cool ideas like Kaiju Psycho Rangers, the first story channeled the right energy overall, crossing over the absolute most classic MMPR villains against the forces of Rita Repulsa on an alternate Earth ravaged by Godzilla. It's deliriously fun, laser-focused, and concise by design to deliver a satisfying five issues that are still fun to read four years later.

It's difficult to state how fun Godzilla's crossovers have been even just in 2026 alone. Sonic the Hedgehog is currently enjoying a brand-new adventure alongside Goji, while other IDW icons like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles completed their recent Godzilla interlude earlier this year. But 2022's Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers still reads particularly well, with Rita Repulsa and goons like Goldar and Scorpina, as she finds the Multiversal Focus that sends everyone to Earth amid Godzilla's battle with Megalon. As if to crank the Showa-style silly factor to 11, Rita intersects with the invading Xilien forces from Planet X, seeing Godzilla as an obstacle to fully conquering the planet.

What ensues is a fun intersection of various kaiju opponents for Godzilla while Rita Repulsa and her forces launch recurring Power Rangers monsters like Eye Guy, aka Dora Argus in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. It's a pretty glorious clash that continues to crescendo with all the usual hits like Zords, the Green Ranger, and even the Dragon Megazord for a climactic finish. The winner overall is Godzilla, who, ever the one spoiling for a fight, gets classic opponents like Gigan and King Ghidorah, all while the Power Rangers do their best to not let Godzilla's wrath be turned onto them. It's an oddly fitting showcase of two sets of wild monsters, but fittingly, Godzilla's superiority is never really in question.

There's Plenty Of Gas In The Tank For Godzilla In 2026

When not clashing with the Power Rangers or escaping the depths of Hell like in previous years, Godzilla still has plenty for fans to be excited about in 2026. The Godzilla Monsterpiece Theatre Presents anthology has expanded through Shakespeare classic Romeo & Juliet, Homer's The Odyssey, and even an old sci-fi spin on H.G. Wells with Roar of the Worlds, with October featuring the latest addition, The Kaiju of Oz. Marvel's even got a recent project following up its Infinity Roar story with Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse currently set to release issue #3 on September 30.

Godzilla as a franchise can be incredibly intense and satisfying to watch, especially in its core movies, with Godzilla Minus Zero being a particularly thrilling upcoming installment. But it's also an excellent destination for readers seeking something truly weird, including the original Power Rangers team, including Tommy Oliver, without getting too into the weeds about the mechanics of how they cross over. These two worlds intersect at an alternate Angel Grove, Rita Repulsa wants to traverse the multiverse to find a spell to control basically all kaiju, and return to conquer her home universe's Earth, with only the Power Rangers and rampaging Godzilla to stop her. Sometimes, a simpler premise with strong art by Williams II, is all that's needed to stick the landing.
