Ashfall from Taal Volcano’s minor eruption to affect nearby towns


MANILA, Philippines — Thin ashfall is expected to affect nearby towns following the minor volcanic explosion at Taal Volcano’s main crater on Thursday evening, Oct. 8, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said that it observed a minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at the main crater of Taal Volcano around 6:06 p.m., which lasted five minutes.

Thin ashfall may affect the southwestern lakeshore towns of Agoncillo, Lemery, San Nicolas, Taal, Batangas, and nearby areas.
This as the explosion generated a dark gray plume that rose approximately 4,000 meters above the crater, according to the state seismologist.
The data were recorded from the Main Crater West Rim (VTWR), Daang Kastila (VTDK), and Buco (VTBC) cameras.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, which indicates low-level volcanic unrest. /cb
