Owner of double-parked car blocking firetruck appears before LTO

The owner of the black sedan that was seen double-parked on a Makati street and that was sideswiped by a firetruck on its way to attend to an emergency appeared before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday.

According to a report on "24 Oras," the motorist declined to issue a statement regarding the incident, but LTO personnel said the driver was reportedly having the vehicle repaired when the firetruck passed.

The driver reportedly tried to steer the car to the right to make way for the firetruck, but could not move the vehicle because its tire was placed on a jack.

LTO personnel added that the driver also denied claims that he was demanding payment for damage to the vehicle.

The LTO issued a show cause order to the driver, directing the submission of sworn statements and supporting documents regarding allegations of parking in prohibited areas and obstructing traffic.

The LTO previously stated that the driver’s license may be revoked if the individual is found to be an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

The agency also directed the driver to immediately surrender the license, which will be placed under a 90-day preventive suspension while the investigation remains ongoing. –NB, GMA News
