Landslide-hit road in Ilocos Sur now passable only to motorcycles

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — The Ken Tayno–Sto. Rosario Road in Sigay town in this province is now passable but only to motorcycles, while four-wheel or larger vehicles are allowed to pass through only during designated hours.

This information comes as road clearing and repair work continue.

According to an update of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on Sunday (Aug. 16), vehicles with four wheels or more may pass from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 2 p.m to 3 p.m. daily.

Motorists were advised to follow the schedule to avoid delays for road workers breaking and clearing large rocks along the route and to help speed up the completion of repairs.

Emergency vehicles and those responding to urgent cases may pass through the road at any time, the MDRRMO noted.

Residents were also urged to remain patient as authorities work to fully reopen the road as soon as possible.

The road was previously hit by a landslide amid heavy southwest monsoon, or habagat, rains, blocking portions of the route. /apl
