Hudson Freeman has announced a new album, Doom Country. As a preview of the record, he released latest single “Fell Ass Backwards.” Stream it below.

Doom Country comes out November 6th via Mom + Pop Records. The lo-fi singer-songwriter’s first album on the label, Doom Country is made up of “unshakeable riffs, philosophical explorations, and one heavy-ass band at his back,” a press release said. Inspirations for the songs include Sufjan Stevens, Andy Shauf, and Wednesday. The project was also “driven by songs about love, about how to live well, about what religion means to him in today’s world.”

“Fell Ass Backwards” is a melancholy exploration of religious beliefs with a backbeat anchored by piano and acoustic guitar, using feedback and shrieking guitar for an emotional explosion. Check out Consequence’s conversation with Freeman from June.
