Steyn City to Sun City? Lawrence Mudzinganyama’s lease TERMINATED

Lawrence Mudzinganyama has had his residential lease terminated by Steyn City Properties after a video of him threatening to murder a group of women at Sandton restaurant, Vlamo, went viral. In the clip, the Zimbabwean businessman bragged that his wealth and status could shield him from the law.

As a result of public backlash, he now faces a charge of intimidation, an investigation into business tender fraud, and calls for him to return to his home country.

Mudzinganyama issued a grovelling public apology on Sunday, in which he vowed to seek professional help.

Over the weekend, he was also officially charged and will make his first appearance at Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 1 October 2026.

ZIM BUSINESSMAN’S STEYN CITY LEASE CUT SHORT

In an internal communiqué shared on X, Steyn City Properties confirmed that Lawrence Mudzinganyama was a tenant at its luxury residential resort in Johannesburg.

The message to residents read: “It has come to our attention that a threatening and intimidating incident which occurred off-site on Friday and was captured on video has been reported in the media.

“The incident is of serious concern to us. We strongly condemn any act of violence or intimidation”

Steyn City confirmed that Mudzinganyama’s lease agreement had been terminated. 

The property group vowed to comply with investigations into the Zimbabwean businessman.

It added: “The safety and security of our residents and community remains our highest priority. Our security team remains on high alert”.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE VLAMO’S VIRAL VIDEO

Since the video of Lawrence Mudzinganyama’s threats against a group of women who rejected his romantic advances went viral, here is what happened:

Vlamo restaurant released a statement, condemning the man’s actions and confirming that a case of intimidation had been opened against him.

Minister of Transport Barbara Creezy instructed the SANRAL board to investigate a R107 million tender awarded to Mudzinganyama’s engineering and construction company, Moriel Infrastructure Group. SANRAL is seeking legal counsel about Mudzinganyama bringing their reputation into disrepute.

Minister of Public Works, Dean Macpherson, has also called for an investigation over allegations that Mudzinganyama had irregularly acquired multiple gradings from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) all on the same day.

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga urged Lawrence Mudzinganyama to hand himself over to the authorities.

IMMIGRATION STATUS UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT

Meanwhile, acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia has also weighed in on Lawrence Mudzinganyama’s threats against women, insisting authorities were looking into the high-priority investigation.

He said during a media briefing: “Threats, of course, amount to unlawful conduct in our society, in our country.”

“I’m not sure what the position is in Zimbabwe, but it’s not allowed – it’s illegal, it’s unlawful” in South Africa.

Cachalia urged the Department of Home Affairs to look into Mudzinganyama’s immigration status
