Hailee Steinfeld Reveals What She Didn’t Expect From Motherhood
Hailee Steinfeld Shares Proof Her, Josh Allen’s Daughter Is a "Smart Cookie"
Hailee Steinfeld is learning to play new notes as a first-time mom.
Six months after she gave birth to baby girl Harper with husband Josh Allen, the Pitch Perfect 2 star shed light on the unexpected impact motherhood has had on her relationship with herself.
“There’s a long answer, but I’ll give the short one here: I’ve learned just how much of myself I still have to discover,” Steinfeld wrote the Nov. 3 edition of her Beau Society newsletter on Substack, in response to a fan question. “I thought becoming a mom would be this transformative experience about loving someone else, and it is that 1000 percent.”
“But what I didn’t expect is how much she’s teaching me about myself,” she added. “She’s made me more patient, more present, and so much more aware of how special the little things are.”
And as the Hexed actress continues to discover new aspects about herself amid her motherhood journey, she’s also learning to take her own advice.
“I’m really good at reminding people that they’re human, that things take time, and that everything happens for a reason,” Steinfeld wrote, “and it will all fall into place—how, when, and where it should—and that they don’t have to have everything all figured out.”
Yet, she admitted, “I’m not always the best at taking that advice myself.”
But since becoming a mom, the Sinners star—who married Allen in May 2025—has made sure that her own wellbeing is still a priority.
“This season of life has definitely taught me to slow down, really just soak in the small pockets of joy that are truly all around us,” she shared on the Nov. 5 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark. “Time for myself looks a little different now, but I find it.”

And this mindset of cherishing every moment is surely beneficial when it comes to wrapping her heard around how fast her daughter is growing up.
“I feel like she’s 6 months, and also 4 weeks, and also 5 years old,” Steinfeld told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. “Time is crazy how it works.”
“She is totally on the move,” she added. “This girl is crawling around.”
And the “Love Myself” singer can’t help but praise her daughter’s achievements, calling Harper a “smart cookie.”
