Carley Fortune Officially Reveals Release Date & Title For 2027 Sequel

Nick Bythrow is a Lead Writer for ScreenRant. He has been writing for the site since September 2022. He graduated from Hampshire College in 2022, where he triple majored in Journalism, Communications, and Media Studies. When he's not writing about TV and movies for ScreenRant and his blog, Frayed Branches, Nick is penning speculative fiction and poetry on Amazon. He lives outside Boston, Massachusetts.

Carley Fortune's sixth book is coming next year.

The author officially revealed the release date and title for her 2027 sequel novel, confirming what to expect from her next book. Fortune is best known for her novel series Every Summer After, taking readers to the setting of Barry's Bay, Ontario as heavy romance follows suit for its interconnected characters. The series was adapted into Prime Video's Every Year After, which currently has a season 2 in development. She also has three standalone novels under her belt: 2023's Meet Me At The Lake, 2024's This Summer Will Be Different, and 2026's Our Perfect Storm.

Now, Fortune has confirmed via her newsletter that her sixth book is titled Only in Summer, serving as the third installment of her Every Summer After series. The book follows Eleanor Florek, or Ellie, the younger cousin of Sam and Charlie from previous installments. A Barry's Bay resident her whole life, she saves up enough to buy a cottage she's wanted for quite some time. However, she learns her plans, and the cottage itself, are about to be toppled by a mysterious (yet good-looking) stranger who bought it before she could.

Fortune confirmed more story details will arrive soon, confirming a release date of May 18, 2027. The book is already available to pre-order in the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom, though no official cover for the book has been released as of writing. While Fortune wasn't planning another installment in the Every Summer After series, she grew inspired after buying a cottage at the real Barry's Bay where she grew up.

The first book in the series, Every Summer After, was released in 2022, focusing on the relationship between Persephone "Percy" Fraser and Sam Florek. The sequel which came out in 2025, One Golden Summer, switched gears to focus on a photographer, Alice, and her relationship with Charlie Florek, Sam's older brother. Each installment has been built around the Florek family, but this will be the first time the female protagonist has been a Florek instead of someone caught up in their orbit.

Only in Summer expands the world of the series as Every Year After season 2 continues development, the series making it to franchise levels thanks to the multiple new installments in the works. Although the Prime Video series doesn't have a return date as of writing, the mid-2027 release date for Fortune's next novel continues her yearly release schedule while providing yet another enticing Barry's Bay entry. What twists and turns await remain unclear, as do the story connections it'll forge with the previous installments.

Since the book is a little under a year away, it might be some time before the cover for Only in Summer gets revealed. But, with Fortune promising a strong new installment, Ellie's story sounds like it'll fit right in with the previous works of the series. The announcement is only just the start, with plenty more about Every Summer After's third book to be revealed prior to its release date.
