Johnny Depp transforms into Scrooge in new trailer for A Christmas Carol adaptation Ebenezer

Translate

A new full trailer for Ebenezer, the upcoming big-screen reimagining of A Christmas Carol, has arrived – and it gives fans a first look at Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer Scrooge.

The new take on the classic Dickens tale from horror movie director Ti West (Pearl, Maxxxine) is coming to cinemas in November.

The new trailer sees Depp’s character delivering the character's trademark "Bah, humbug" to a friendly festive greeting.

The character is then confronted by the ghosts of his past, present and future, with one (played by Andrea Riseborough) warning: "Your nightmare has just begun."

The footage also gives us a good look at West’s horror-tinged reimagining of the story, with Scrooge facing supernatural entities and confronted by his own mortality.

Alongside Depp and Riseborough, the star-studded cast also features Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen.

The movie will mark Depp’s first leading role in nearly a decade, following his high-profile legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Since then, the actor has appeared in 2023’s French language film Jeanne du Barry, and is also set to star alongside Penélope Cruz in Lionsgate’s American action thriller Day Drinker, which is due to be released in 2027.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also claimed that Depp is in talks to return for the sixth film in the franchise.

In August, he told Deadline while appearing at Disney’s biannual D23 fan event: “We’re talking with Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”

Depp had, however, previously insisted that he wouldn't reprise the role for "$300 million and a million alpacas".

The publication also cited sources claiming that Jack Sparrow won’t be the main character, and that the spotlight will be on a female lead, played by Margot Robbie, with Sparrow as a side character.
