Great British Bake Off sends home another contestant after "tough" week

Translate

The Great British Bake Off sent home another contestant on Tuesday (20 October) evening as the remaining hopefuls tackled Dessert Week.

Despite trying their best to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson, one baker was eliminated from the tent after making a variety of puddings.

The first challenge saw the group tasked with making eight self-saucing puddings, while the Technical was set by Nigella, who asked the bakers to make their own version of bread and butter pudding.

For their third and final bake, the contestants were asked to create their very own dessert trolleys full of retro puddings, such as trifle and sticky toffee pudding.

There's no denying that it was testing week, with even Paul himself branding the Showstopper Challenge "particularly tricky".

Following Molly's departure last week, sadly, it was Yannis who was the next to leave. Upon learning his fate, he said: "It's been a pleasure. I grew up watching this program, being here for five weeks, it's surreal. I'm very proud of that, it's been very wonderful."

Speaking about his departure, Paul said: "Unfortunately, it's come to the end of the line for Yannis, which is really sad as he's a really good baker."

Meanwhile, it was Connie who was crowned Star Baker this week, which she described as "amazing".

Speaking about the decision, Nigella said: "It's been wonderful seeing Connie hit her stride, there is something about her bake that makes one feel happy."

Connie was also the lucky contestant who got a handshake from Paul after he was left thoroughly impressed by her self-saucing chocolate sponge pudding.

Fans tuning in at home had plenty to say about the decisions as one person posted on X: "Gutted for Yannis but yayyyy star baker auntie Connie!!!"

"So happy for Connie but sad for Yannis too," another wrote, while a third said: "Well deserved star baker for Connie and unfortunately Yannis unlucky but this week was tough for you felt sorry for Gazza but he chucked it under with showstopper being weak."

The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.
