KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — A former group chief executive officer of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd was charged today with criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 million earmarked for a large-scale solar power project in Pahang.

Azlizan Fadzil, 53, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Sessions Court judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin, the New Straits Times (NST) reported.

According to the charge, Azlizan was entrusted in his capacity as chief executive officer with RM37,374,612.68 intended for investment in a 50-megawatt large-scale solar photovoltaic power generation project in Gambang.

He is accused of dishonestly misappropriating the money by making payments for purposes other than the intended investment.

The alleged offence took place between February 2 and October 2, 2017, at Affin Bank Berhad’s UiTM Shah Alam branch at Menara Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, according to the report.

Azlizan was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between two and 20 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

He told the court interpreter that he understood the charge and the penalties.

NST reported that Azlizan arrived at the courtroom shortly before 9am in a wheelchair, accompanied by several family members.
