Kwadaso Assembly plants 400 royal palms to promote green environment

The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly has embarked on a large-scale tree planting exercise at Diamond Valley, a sub-community of Denkyemuoso, as part of its efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote a green environment.

The exercise, which was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Eric Asibey, saw the planting of about 400 royal palm trees along principal streets, frontages of houses, and identified open spaces within the fast-developing residential enclave.

The MCE explained the project goes beyond beautification, as it is a strategic intervention to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, control erosion, and provide shade.

He noted that urban communities like Diamond Valley are increasingly experiencing the adverse effects of climate change, including excessive heat and poor air circulation, which can be addressed through deliberate tree planting.

"Planting these royal palm trees will not only help fight climate change but will also enhance the beauty of this community and make Kwadaso a model green municipality. Trees are life, and we must consciously protect our environment for future generations," he stated.

Mr. Asibey commended the residents for their cooperation and assured them that the Assembly will continue to roll out similar greening interventions across other communities within the municipality.

The MCE further acknowledged the major concern of residents regarding the poor condition of roads in the area. He noted that most residents are prominent individuals who are able to provide for themselves basic amenities such as water and streetlights, but road infrastructure remains their biggest challenge.

He assured the residents of his commitment to lobby for the construction of the roads to ease movement and improve living conditions.

"The state of the roads here is deplorable and I understand your concerns. I will do everything within my power to ensure these roads are constructed for your convenience," Mr. Asibey assured.

Chairman of the Diamond Valley Residents Association, Dr. Emmanuel Ati, commended the Assembly for the initiative and charged members of the association to take ownership of the project to ensure its sustainability.

He urged residents to nurture the trees planted in front of their homes and promised that the association would replace any seedlings that fail to survive.

"We must all take good care of these trees. It is our responsibility to water them and ensure they grow. The association will monitor and replace any seedlings that fail to survive, but we need the commitment of every household," Dr. Ati emphasised.

Some residents who took part in the exercise also commended the Assembly for the initiative, describing it as timely, and pledged their full support to maintain the trees to ensure the sustainability of the project.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Diamond Valley Residents Association and forms part of ongoing efforts by the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly to promote environmental sustainability in the municipality.
