Vijay Deverakonda is gearing up for his upcoming period action drama ‘Ranabaali’, directed by Rahul Sankrityan. Ahead of its release on October 16, the actor opened up about how he chooses scripts and why some of his films work while others do not.During a conversation with YouTube channel Sudhir Srinivasan, with Rashmika Mandanna also part of the discussion, the ‘Arjun Reddy’ actor said the success or failure of a film depends on many factors. He explained that an actor is only one part of the filmmaking process.

Vijay Deverakonda opens up about choosing scripts

“It has to do with many things coming together for those films to work that way. Like, I feel any film, for it to work, from the script to the director to the shot he chooses to the lenses they choose to the music to the edit to even the season of release to the public mood, sentiment, expectations, there are...

there are 2,000 variables that make each film what it is,” he said.

Vijay Deverakonda: ‘I give my 100% to every film I do’

Vijay Deverakonda said he gives the same level of passion and effort to every film he works on. He also mentioned directors such as Tharun Bhascker, Nag Ashwin, Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Parasuram as has worked with and said the outcome depends on how different elements come together.“I give my 100% to every film I do, right? I go in with the same passion.

I'm like a madman, obsessed by what I... uh, that's... that I go to bed like that, wake up like that. So, it all... it's all the same,” said ‘The Family Man’ actor. He added that if actors could control every factor behind a film, every actor would have only successful films.

Vijay Deverakonda says he loves every script he picks

Vijay also rejected the idea that he chooses scripts by trying to create a particular image or deliberately add hero moments to his films.“No, I think that is never an objective. I'll tell you how the selection of scripts happens.

Right? All the films that I've done, I've loved the scripts. Even films that you completely might not like. [Laughs] I have personally loved... loved the scripts,” he said.According to Vijay, the way people respond to films is connected to their own experiences and outlook on life. He said the same applies to the scripts he chooses.“Every script I pick comes from the life I lived and my outlook in life,” he explained.

Vijay Deverakonda on ‘Liger’ backlash

Vijay then discussed ‘Liger’, which received heavy criticism after its release in 2022.

He explained why the story of the film personally connected with him despite the way it was eventually received.“So, when I... for example, when I pick a Liger—let's pick that because that probably got the heaviest amount of backlash—for me, the story of an underdog from Karimnagar with big dreams coming... having the poster of a man who he considers a legend and saying, 'One day I want a picture with him,' and my mom saying, 'No, that's not how you look at life.

You have to become big enough that someday that man acknowledges you.'”Vijay said that the emotional journey of the character reminded him of his own life.“For me, that arc, that story is my life itself. So, for me, that emotion is huge. Maybe how we executed it, the way we went about it didn't land.”

Vijay Deverakonda after ‘Raanabali’ has multiple films in his pipeline including the action thriller ‘Rowdy Janardhana’ and a film with ‘Hi Nanna’ director Shouryuv tentatively called, ‘VDxShouryuv’.
