‘We have a lack of leadership’ – Kaizer Chiefs coach

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has reacted to his side’s 3-2 win over Siwelele this past weekend.

Amakhosi moved back to third position in the Betway Premiership following Sunday’s hard fought win.

Despite the win, Da Cruz was not happy with his defence.

“In the first half, we created a lot of chances, but we didn’t score enough and in the second half we had two chances and score two goals, so we have an issue about that. We need to work a lot on our defensive part to not give chances to the opponent,” Da Cruz told SuperSport TV.

Chiefs coach says the team lacks leadership

Amakhosi have the second best defence last season but have conceded four times in their five league matches this season.

Da Cruz felt his team lacked leadership and character at the back on Sunday.

“We created a lot of chances, but we didn’t score so after that you can make mistakes because you’re not enough killer in the two boxes as either offensively and defensively. We have a lack of leadership, lack of character in our defensive line, a lack of personality in our defensive line so we need to correct that and work a lot,” the Kaizer Chiefs coach added.

The Soweto giants did not have certain key players due to injuries but Da Cruz feels once more players are fit, the team will have more options.

“For sure, we need to recover players from our defensive line but also for our offensive line. Today Phili and Flavio was there so when everyone comes back we will have more options for the starting line-up,” Da Cruz said.

With just two months into his tenure as Chiefs coach, Da Cruz has already won the hearts of many Amakhosi fans.
