Khao Kheow Zoo welcomes a new white rhino calf on Rhino Day

CHONBURI — 22 September 2026, Khao Kheow Open Zoo has welcomed a new white rhino calf, born just in time for World Rhino Day.

The zoo announced the birth on its Facebook page, Khao Kheow Open Zoo, sharing photos of the newborn and describing it as the zoo’s newest white rhino family member.

The male calf was born to mother Grietjie and father Sudi after a pregnancy lasting more than 16 months. The calf is in good health and is already able to stand and nurse.

The newborn is currently receiving close care from keepers and veterinarians at the zoo’s African animal exhibit.

The calf is also the younger brother of Power, known by his Thai nickname Rot Tang, another white rhino at the zoo.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo said it will soon launch a public vote to choose a name for the newborn through its Facebook page.

Also on 22 September, Khao Kheow Open Zoo held activities marking World Rhino Day 2026 under the direction of zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi, who assigned assistant director Srisak Sukchum to oversee the event.

The activities were held with support from Thai Oil Public Co Ltd, led by Peerasut Srithawat Na Ayudhya, refinery public relations manager.

The collaboration aims to promote public and youth awareness of rhinos and wildlife conservation, while encouraging greater awareness of the importance of protecting natural resources and the environment.

Activities included special programs by the Thai Oil group, exhibitions and educational activities about rhinos and conservation, family and children’s learning activities, and programs encouraging public participation in wildlife conservation.

The event also gave visitors and tourists an opportunity to learn more about rhinos and take part in efforts to raise awareness of wildlife conservation.
