el-Sisi Fulfills Eight-Year Promise to Fallen Officer’s Daughter
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi attended the marriage contract ceremony of Amira, the daughter of a late Egyptian Armed Forces officer, on Thursday, 5 November, fulfilling a promise he made to her eight years earlier.
Amira is the daughter of Brigadier General Mohamed Saad Mostafa Ayad, who was killed in the line of duty, according to a presidential statement.
Ayad was killed on 28 November 2014 when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a military vehicle in the Gesr El-Suez area of Cairo. According to a military statement published at the time, the attackers were travelling in an unmarked car without licence plates and fled the scene, leaving Ayad dead and two other military personnel injured.
The shooting took place amid heightened security across Egypt ahead of planned anti-government demonstrations at the time. Military personnel had been deployed to protect public facilities and infrastructure, while security forces were responding to threats of violence in several areas.
Four years later, during a Police Academy graduation ceremony in 2018, Amira spoke to el-Sisi about her wish to have her father present on her wedding day.
“If our attending your wedding would be enough for you, we will be there,” el-Sisi told her at the time.
Eight years later, el-Sisi attended Amira’s marriage contract ceremony, fulfilling the promise he made in 2018.
According to the presidential statement, his attendance was intended as a gesture of appreciation for members of the Armed Forces who died in service and their families.
