The Philippine Air Force (PAF) confirmed Saturday the deaths of four pilots during a training flight over Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas.

In a statement, the PAF described the incident as an "aviation accident," which was logged at 3:51 p.m. on Friday, October 23.

Two single-propeller SF-260 aircraft were involved, with both of them going down within the base perimeter.

Video footage obtained by GMA News showed the two aircraft colliding in midair.

"The Philippine Air Force mourns the loss of four pilots in an aviation accident involving two SF-260 aircraft during a training flight at Fernando Air Base on October 23, 2026. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families, loved ones, and fellow airmen," the PAF wrote on Facebook.

According to the PAF, an inquiry is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

In the wake of the development, the entire fleet of SF-260 aircraft has been grounded as a safety precaution.

The PAF assured that it is providing all necessary assistance to the bereaved families and appealed to the public to respect their privacy.

"May our fallen aviators' courage, dedication, and service be remembered, and may their souls rest in eternal peace," PAF added. — VDV, GMA News
