Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary was already a science-fiction sensation long before it hit the big screen this year. The novel featured Weir's signature attention to scientific detail and an original and heartfelt story, following astronaut Ryland Grace on a desperate mission to save humanity. It quickly became a #1 New York Times bestseller, won Goodreads' 2021 Choice Award for science fiction, and earned a Hugo Award nomination, putting it up there status-wise with Weir's The Martian.

Project Hail Mary reached even greater heights in 2026, when Ryan Gosling brought Grace to the big screen in the acclaimed adaptation directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film grossed more than $680 million worldwide, introducing Weir's story to new audiences worldwide and reigniting interest in the original novel. ScreenRant's Gregory Nussen gave the film a stellar 9/10, calling it "a remarkable achievement" that is "destined for the all-time great sci-fi movie pantheon."

Now, with Project Hail Mary enjoying a well-deserved resurgence in popularity, fans have another exciting book release to look forward to, officially arriving on December 1, 2026.

Project Hail Mary fans have another exciting release to look forward to before the end of 2026, with a brand-new Deluxe Edition of Andy Weir's beloved sci-fi novel officially arriving on December 1. Published by Ballantine Books, the special hardcover edition gives readers an opportunity to revisit Ryland Grace's unforgettable adventure in an upgraded and beautiful new format, this version being geared toward those who discovered the story through the enormously successful film adaptation.

Based on the Penguin Random House listing, the Deluxe release includes several exclusive design features that distinguish it from the original hardcover. These include intricately designed stenciled page edges, brand-new cover artwork featured on a deluxe dust jacket, full-color illustrated endpapers, and a custom-stamped case beneath the jacket. Of course, the story itself hasn't changed at all, following Grace as he awakens on a spacecraft millions of miles from Earth with no memory of his mission. As his memories start to return, he realizes that humanity's survival depends on solving a seemingly impossible scientific mystery. It's a premise that helped make the original novel a bestseller, and one that gained an entirely new audience through the 2026 film starring Ryan Gosling.

The 496-page Deluxe Edition carries an official retail price of $40, although discounts are available through various retailers such as the nearly half-off listing below on Amazon. Pre-orders are currently available through most major booksellers ahead of its December 1 release, arriving just in time for the holiday season.

You can pre-order the Deluxe Edition of Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary via Amazon here.

While this isn't a sequel or an entirely new Project Hail Mary adventure, it'll be a standout addition to any longtime readers' libraries. Between the original novel's success, its celebrated Hollywood adaptation, and new adaptations such as the mixed reality and virtual reality Journey Among the Stars experience on the way, Weir's science-fiction phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down. And for readers who have been waiting for an excuse to revisit Grace's journey, this December release could be the perfect opportunity.
