Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates to signing of another defender

Mamelodi Sundowns appear to have beaten Orlando Pirates to the signing of AmaZulu FC defender Wandile Dube.

With the transfer window closing on Monday, Masandawana have continued to strengthen their squad, adding another defensive option as they look to build greater depth at the back.

According to FARPost, Dube has signed a permanent three-year deal with the Tshwane giants after completing his move from AmaZulu.

The 22-year-old reportedly passed his medical on Monday before reporting for his first training session with his new teammates on Tuesday.

Dube becomes Sundowns’ latest defensive addition after the club also signed Deano van Rooyen and Thabang Matuludi during the current transfer window.

The former Utsugu defender is expected to provide competition and depth on the left side of defence, including for Khulumani Ndamane.

His arrival could prove particularly important for Sundowns as they prepare for a demanding campaign that includes the defence of their CAF Champions League title, the Betway Premiership and domestic cup competitions.

Sundowns’ capture of Dube is also significant because Pirates were reportedly interested in the defender. The Brazilians have now beaten their rivals to another defensive signing after also securing the services of Matuludi.

With Masandawana competing on multiple fronts, the addition of Dube gives coach Miguel Cardoso another option in defence and further strengthens the squad ahead of a busy season.

Sundowns looking to conquer

This past weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the next round of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup after edging Al Ahli 2-1.

A brace from Nuno Santos secured a memorable victory for Miguel Cardoso’s side and ensured Sundowns progressed to the next stage of the prestigious tournament.
