Indian high commission warns against misuse of visa-free facility for jobs
The Indian high commission in Kuala Lumpur has warned Indian nationals against using Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free facility to seek employment.
The warning follows a noticeable increase in arrivals of individuals who have allegedly been misled by bogus job offers.
In an advisory posted on its official X account, the high commission said the visa-free facility, which allows Indian passport holders to stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days, is strictly for tourism and social visits.
It said using the facility to seek employment would be a clear violation of immigration rules.
“There is a noticeable increase in Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia using the 30-day visa-free facility to seek employment.
“The high commission of India in Kuala Lumpur alerts Indian nationals travelling to Malaysia on tourist visas against taking up employment.
“Many Indian nationals are misled by unscrupulous agents with false job promises, leading to overstays, illegal status, exploitation, detention and legal action,” it said.
The high commission also reiterated that Indian nationals should not travel to Malaysia for employment without a valid work permit or visa with reference.
It said genuine tourists must carry valid and verifiable documentation such as confirmed return tickets, hotel bookings, online submissions of the Malaysia digital arrival card three days before the arrival date, and passports with a minimum six-month validity to avoid immigration-related issues on arrival in Malaysia.
