Nnadi set for Marseille return after knee injury

Translate

Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi is expected to make his return to competitive action for Marseille this weekend after recovering from a knee injury that kept him sidelined for the past month.

The 23-year-old has endured a challenging start to the campaign. He began the season as a squad option, featuring twice from the bench before suffering the injury just ahead of the international break. The setback forced him out of Nigeria’s squad for the just-concluded AFCON qualifiers.

Early indications suggested the knee problem could be more serious than first thought. Fresh reports, however, confirm that Nnadi is now fully fit and no longer experiences any discomfort. This development places him back in contention for a place in Marseille’s squad for the Ligue 1 fixture against Troyes at the Stade de l’Aube.

Marseille will be without midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who sustained an injury while representing Denmark during the international window. Coach Bruno Génésio may therefore adjust his starting line-up, potentially handing Nnadi an opportunity to start and prove he can become a regular member of the team.

The French club has been in poor form, losing its last five matches. Troyes have also struggled, dropping three of their previous five games. Marseille hold a dominant recent record against Troyes, having won their last five meetings, and will enter the clash as slight favourites.

Since making his Super Eagles debut at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, Nnadi has been a regular in the national team set-up whenever fit and in good club form. He would almost certainly have been selected for the recent international break had he been available.

With his fitness restored, the former Zulte Waregem midfielder will look to secure consistent minutes at Marseille and help the side reverse their current run of results. Regular playing time would strengthen his chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad for the November international window.
