Govt pursues BLBI obligors, debtors despite clearing BI debt

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government affirmed that it will continue to actively pursue and collect outstanding debts from Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) obligors and debtors, despite having fully settled its own Rp218.3 trillion bond debt to Bank Indonesia.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara clarified that clearing the state's crisis-era liabilities with the central bank does not extinguish the government's legal right to recover funds from bailout recipients who have yet to fulfill their obligations.

"The relationship between the government and Bank Indonesia has concluded. However, the government will continue to pursue the collection of obligations from those debtors and obligors, as the government holds the right to collect," Suahasil told reporters at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday.

To handle the recovery operations, the government will rely on established internal structures rather than reinstating the specialized BLBI Task Force (Satgas BLBI), whose mandate officially expired at the end of 2024.

Collection efforts have now fully transitioned to the Ministry of Finance's Directorate General of State Assets Management (DJKN) and the State Receivables Affairs Committee (PUPN).

"In terms of governance, the function is being continued by the Ministry of Finance," Suahasil explained.

Under this framework, the ministry will utilize active collection strategies, maintain communication on outstanding debts, and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to tag and seize assets linked to BLBI recapitalization obligations.

Suahasil noted that recovery efforts are further strengthened by Government Regulation (PP) No. 4 of 2026, which serves as the legal foundation for the ongoing collection and enforcement process.

"We hope to continue pursuing these obligations and subsequently utilize the recovered funds for the public good through the State Budget," the minister concluded.
