Melaka polls: Pas ready to use own logo, with or without BN cooperation

KOTA BARU: Political understanding, rather than the logo used, is key to preventing seat clashes between Pas and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Melaka state election.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party was prepared to use its own logo regardless of whether cooperation with BN materialised.

"Whether cooperation with BN succeeds or fails, Pas is prepared to use the Pas logo. As a party that has been around for a long time and is well known, we are confident that the Pas symbol will be accepted by voters in Melaka.

"What is important is for an understanding to be reached because the logo is not the main issue if there is an understanding.

"Without an understanding, there will be clashes. This is among the important matters that need to be decided," he said when contacted.

Yesterday BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition is prepared to discuss the use of the Pas logo for the Melaka election as part of ongoing negotiations on political cooperation.

Zahid said BN would hold discussions with several parties this week to determine the form of cooperation for the polls, following Perikatan Nasional's (PN) indication that it may use the Pas logo if its own symbol remains unavailable.

His remarks came after PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition was considering using the Pas logo if its own symbol could not be used, while Bersatu could contest under its own logo.

Takiyuddin said the use of a logo was not a major issue in Melaka and Pas had no problem using its own logo in the upcoming state election.
