Full List: 20 NSCDC officers suspended over 37 miners’ death; probe panel members

The Federal Government has suspended officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, over the death of 37 miners in its holding cell. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Also, the government set up a 10-member independent panel to investigate the deaths.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcements on Saturday in a statement.

He said the committee was set up following a directive by President Bola Tinubu for “a comprehensive, transparent and unhindered investigation” into the incident. Read the full story HERE.

14. IC Mohammed Jiya

15. DSC Isah Suleiman

Members of the committee set up to probe the incident are:

1. Mr Jonathan Kure, a retired Deputy Director General of the Department of State Services DSS  – Chairman.

2. Prof. Isa Hayatu Ciroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and former Director General of the Nigeria Law School  – Secretary.

3. AIG Hosea Hassan Karma (retired)  – Member.

4. Prof. Olayinka Buhari, a professor of histopathology and former Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital – Member

5. Representative of the Minna Emirate Council.

6. Representative of the Niger State Government.

7. Alhaji Liman Sulaiman, National Secretary of the Miners Association of Nigeria.

8. Mr Deji Adeyanju, lawyer and human rights activist.

9. Mrs Zainab Suleiman Okino of Blueprint Newspaper.

10. Dr George Agbakahi, a public affairs analyst.

The Federal Government said the committee may co-opt relevant experts, access all necessary facilities and documents, visit relevant locations and request memoranda from members of the public, and has two weeks to complete its work and submit its report to the Minister.
