The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Adamawa State, Christopher Nathaniel, has said his administration will introduce an agricultural revolution aimed at reducing poverty and creating jobs for youths in the state.

Nathaniel, who spoke to journalists at the weekend, said Adamawa’s fertile land had the potential to generate more wealth than some oil-producing states.

He said, “We are sleeping on wealth in Adamawa State. Our land can give us what oil states cannot get. From Madagali to Toungo is wealth. Anything you want to produce, you can get hundreds of tonnes yearly.”

The SDP candidate also said the Mubi cattle market, which he described as the biggest cattle market in West Africa, had the potential to generate significant revenue for the state if properly developed.

“Adamawa State has the biggest cattle market in West Africa, but the government is yet to develop it to a level where the market, in one month, can generate what the state gets from Abuja as allocation. Adamawa State can get twice that from only Mubi cattle market,” he said.

Nathaniel said his agricultural policy would be a departure from what he described as the short-term approach of previous administrations, stressing the need to focus on the production, processing, packaging and export of agricultural products.

He also proposed the establishment of a cargo airport in Mubi, saying it would boost the cattle market and attract international businessmen and women who could patronise the market and transact in foreign currency, to the benefit of the state.

Nathaniel said the media would play a key role in promoting investment opportunities in Adamawa and showcasing the state’s agricultural potential to the world.

He commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for constructing the International Conference Centre, saying the facility could help attract investors to the state, particularly if complemented by standard hotels.

The SDP governorship candidate also said his experience in public service positioned him to develop the state, adding that education, healthcare, skills development, youth empowerment and security would be priorities of his administration.

He urged Adamawa voters to choose candidates based on their competence rather than political affiliation, saying he stood out among those seeking to govern the state.
