PlayStation Plus First Free Game For October 2026 Officially Confirmed

As PlayStation Plus winds down for September, many subscribers are already looking to the month ahead. This means the current run of Essential games for September will be leaving next week, and a new batch of free games for October 2026 will arrive next Tuesday. While the full announcement for October Essential games on PS Plus hasn't been made, we at least have official confirmation of one new game that'll be debuting next month.

The reveal technically came during September's State of Play, but you'd be forgiven if you don't remember. There were a lot of announcements coming at a pretty fast pace during that broadcast. However, the last livestream confirmed Extra and Premium members on PlayStation Plus would be getting a new day-one game in October.

Mycopunk will be free for all PlayStation Plus members on the Extra and Premium tiers. The PS5 game will be added on October 20, 2026, as a day-one launch title. This is a four-player co-op looter shooter, published by Devolver Digital and developed by Pigeons at Play. The game was in early access on PC for a time, offering players a chance to see what Mycopunk is all about. It currently sits at "Very Positive" on Steam.

"Cut through fungal aliens in this hyper-customizable, mission based looter shooter," reads the official description. "Hundreds of hand-crafted upgrades, 4-player co-op, and a little roach man. What’s not to love?" A number of bundles are also available to purchase, but PS Plus members will be able to check this one out at no additional cost once it arrives next month. The arrival of October, of course, means that the current slate of Essential games will all be leaving PlayStation Plus next week. If you haven't already, be sure to download them to your library, even if you don't plan on playing them immediately. That way, you'll still be able to play them later on as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus membership at the time.

We also know already that a number of games are leaving PS Plus in October. Those games are:

The full announcement for PlayStation Plus games in October 2026 should arrive on Wednesday, September 30. The reveal typically happens around 11 am ET. The new batch of Essential games will then go live on the following Tuesday, October 6. In the meantime, it's nice to have a headstart of what to expect thanks to the Mycopunk announcement.
